Everyday, Football INDEX highlights the five biggest market movers over a 24-hour period. Here are the current five at the time of writing:

1. SUAT SERDAR (SCHALKE)

Schalke have already made a number of interesting signings this summer, having strengthened in a number of positions.

The capture of Salif Sane from Hannover is arguably the most eye-catching summer arrival but Saur Serdar’s free transfer from Mainz is perhaps the most interesting.

Serdar will be a relative unknown quantity to most Bundesliga fans but Schalke sporting director is more than familiar with the 21-year-old after handing the defensive midfielder his first professional contract at Mainz back in 2015.

Schalke have lost Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer this summer and the arrival of Serdar will bolster their options in midfield ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Serdar will likely not be a first-team regular at the start of the season, as he will need time to settle to his new surroundings. He made 16 league starts last season and a further nine appearances from the bench.

He weighed in two goals but his main role for Schalke will be to act as a midfield destroyer, marshalling the space in front of their defence. An average of 3.1 tackles per 90 suggests he will be capable of doing that.

His Football INDEX share price is only £0.79 and he should be monitored over the course of the season. However, his stock is unlikely to rise right away, meaning you should consider alternatives for your portfolio.

2. GIUSEPPE PEZZELLA (UDINESE)

Another youngster causing a stir on Football INDEX is Giuseppe Pezzella. The 20-year-old’s Football INDEX share price has increased 20.03% in the last 24 hours and he is now trading at £0.50 a share.

Pezzella made 15 appearances in the league last season and will hope to build on that in the upcoming campaign for an Udinese side hoping for better fortunes.

The Serie A outfit flirted dangerously with relegation last season after an incredible 11-game losing streak pushed them towards the brink, but they managed to do just enough to beat the drop.

Pezzella garnered a less-than-impressive WhoScored rating of 6.26 from his 15 appearances and it only increases to 6.38 when you exclude substitute appearances.

Udinese flittered between a three-man and four-man defence last season, meaning Pezzella played in a conventional left-back position and left wing-back role.

However, he offered little in the way of offensive threat, managing 0.5 shots per game, 0.7 key passes per game and 0.9 dribbles per game. He should be avoided for your portfolios.

3. IVAN PERISIC (INTER)

Speculation has emerged claiming Manchester United are back in the market for Inter forward Ivan Perisic off the back of his impressive showings at the 2018 World Cup.

Jose Mourinho failed to sign Perisic from his former club 12 months ago but is reportedly willing to have another crack at prising the Croatia international to Old Trafford.

Despite claiming last season that he had no intentions of bolstering his offensive options this summer, Mourinho has already been linked with raids of former clubs Real Madrid and Chelsea for Gareth Bale and Willian, respectively.

Now that both seem unavailable for the time being, United are preparing another move for Perisic, who Mourinho praised during his punditry work for Russia Today at the 2018 World Cup.

The 29-year-old only signed a new five-year deal with Inter at the start of last season but United believe there is wiggle room to get a transfer over the line this summer, particularly as Inter are interested in United outcast Matteo Darmian.

Perisic’s Football INDEX share price is £2.50 at the time of writing, but will only soar if United manage to get their man this summer. He is certainly worth considering for your portfolios.

4. DOUGLAS LUIZ (MANCHESTER CITY)

Manchester City shelled out £10m to sign Douglas Luiz from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama 12 months ago before immediately farming him out on loan to La Liga outfit Girona.

The 20-year-old made 15 appearances for Girona in the league last season but only one of those came as a starter. He has now returned to Manchester City and it remains to be seen what Pep Guardiola’s intentions with him are now.

Guardiola has reportedly pulled the plug on City’s search for Yaya Toure’s replacement after Jorginho sensationally signed for Chelsea and that could open up the door for Luiz at the Etihad.

Luiz is a central midfielder by trade and has been included in City’s squad for their pre-season tour of the USA, giving him the perfect opportunity to impress Guardiola before the new campaign.

While his Football INDEX share price is only £0.68, it’s likely you have already missed the curve if you haven’t already jumped on board. Guardiola has rarely turned to youth in his first two seasons in charge of City and that doesn’t look likely to suddenly change.

5. DANNY WELBECK (ARSENAL)

Unai Emery has already made sweeping changes at Arsenal this summer and is expected to continue that before the season starts.

There have already been five new arrivals at Arsenal and three outgoings in the shape of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Per Mertesacker.

There are now reports claiming Danny Welbeck and David Ospina will be the next to go as Emery continues a mass squad overhaul before the start of the new campaign.

Welbeck has struggled to stay fit for prolonged periods since joining Arsenal from Manchester United in 2014 and was a surprise inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

The 27-year-old made 28 appearances in the Premier League last season but only 12 of those came as starts. He managed five goals in that time but generally struggled for continuity on the pitch.

His Football INDEX share price has risen 16.64% in the last 24 hours and he could be a worthwhile addition to your portfolio, but it depends whether you have faith in Welbeck to rediscover some decent form at his next club.
