Team News

Southampton
Stoke
  • After the draw with United in midweek, Saints have no fresh injury concerns, with Virgil van Dijk the only first team absentee.
  • Ryan Bertrand was dropped from the squad on Wednesday, fuelling speculation of a summer departure, so Matt Targett may get the nod once more.
  • Elsewhere Jay Rodriguez will hope to start up front after a barren run, including a penalty saved in midweek, from Manolo Gabbiadini.
  • Stephen Ireland and Ibrahim Afellay remain Stoke's long term absentees through injury.
  • Marko Arnautovic has an arm injury and is a doubt for the season finale at Saints having been forced off against Arsenal.
  • Ramadan Sobhi could take the Austrian's place on the wing, while Peter Crouch may get the call up front to replace Mame Biram Diouf.

Prediction

  • Southampton all but assured a top half finish in midweek and while it's been an underwhelming season for the club, they could yet finish eighth, which is probably what most would have predicted at the start of the season.
  • Claude Puel's future at the club is in doubt regardless, and should Stoke fall to another defeat at St. Mary's - having won just one of their last ten in the league - then surely the pressure would be mounting on Hughes' position as well.
  • While this match may mean very little on the surface then, it could have a real bearing on the respective managers' futures, and on current form one would have to favour the hosts given Stoke's dismal away record of late.
