Team News

Man Utd
Southampton
  • Michael Carrick is available after picking up a slight injury picked up on Thursday night, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan is ruled out. Jose Mourinho has confirmed Wayne Rooney will also be in the squad, while a late fitness test is required for Phil Jones.
  • Juan Mata did not travel to London with the rest of his teammates after attending his grandfather's funeral so his involvement on Sunday is in doubt.
  • Eric Bailly was sent off on Thursday in the Europa League but is free to play here. Mourinho must also decide who he starts at left back with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Mateo Darmian all favourites over Luke Shaw.
  • Martín Cáceres joined Southampton on a free earlier this month but hasn't played competitively in more than 12 months and will be lacking match fitness. Claude Puel must decide whether to gamble on his fitness or trust 22-year-old Jack Stephens with Virgil van Dijk ruled out.
  • Sofiane Boufal sustained an ankle injury at the start of the month and only returned to training on Thursday. A late decision will be made whether he is included in the 18, with Nathan Redmond poised to start in his absence.

Prediction

  • Southampton are gunning for their first piece of cup silverware since lifting the 1976 FA Cup final and have had two weeks to prepare for this final, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be better off for it. Claude Puel's side have only actually won one of their last four matches.
  • Manchester United are in great form and have only one defeat in their last 25 matches in all competitions. They are clear favourites here but injuries in key positions will make this final more difficult for Jose Mourinho's side, as they bid to win the League Cup for the first time since 2010.
  • Mourinho has a sensational record in finals and it's hard to bet against United. This will be the third time United have been to Wembley in the last 10 months and they triumphed in each of their first two visits. It will be a very tight affair but United should shade it, although might need extra time to overcome Southampton.

  • Disappointing, Southampton were much the better team.

  • @What4 disappointing for all the haters

  • 6 offside goals scored in the league and now an opposition onside goal disallowed in the cup. Luckily it wasn't a final or anything....

  • @SteveHyland typical crying baby. Forgot to mention how many times Utd were denied by referee

  • @SteveHyland Burnley handball goal and offside pen, Southampton bullshit pen, Leicester bullshit non pen call, Hull handball goal....but of course Arsenal don't get lucky calls

  • Southampton deserved a draw, but Ibra made the difference.

  • Though it's a shame Gabb's first goal was wrongly ruled out, biggest shame was absence of Van Dijk or even Caceres - particularly look at how Lingard, who is crap, was just able to stand in a dangerous area and pass the ball into the net unopposed when he got it. Also Ibra was unmarked for his second. Otherwise Southampton deserved to win.

  • @dSquib- You can understand defenders not marking Zlatan though, he is hardly a household name who has scored goals in every top flight league. :-p

  • Man Utd fan here...still dunno how Yoshida, Bertrand and Redmond end up getting worse ratings than Pogba and Rojo

  • @abhishek.pandit.756 rojo was good

  • @_WL_ You mad bruh??

  • @_WL_ Today Rojo was abysmal in defense. A lot of mistakes - failed to mark players, lost ball in dangerous positions, was easily dribbled past few times.

  • @GuRuStron ... yet crucially received the ball and passed it to Lingard, who scored.

  • will mourinho moan about the referees again?

  • Manchester United may have won, but all the haters who said Southampton had no chance have been proved wrong. It was a night where both teams deserved to win, in a thoroughly enjoyable (for once) cup final. Who said they are always cagey affairs?

  • Glory glory Man united, Glory glory Man united, Glory glory Man united, As the reds go marching on on on! Just like the busby babes in days gone by, We'll keep the red flags flying high, Your gonna see us all from far and wide, Your gonna hear the masses sing with pride. On your face haters ! Take this :D

  • @footballover more like glory glory officials save your asses again

  • @JoeSWFC more like your ass is burning

  • @footballover- That doesn't actually make sense but anyway, if you can vehemently celebrate winning via a wrongly disallowed Saints goal and 2 unmarked tap-ins, then that is up to you but that is what I'd expect from fans of clubs who weren't used to contesting league championships and getting to champions league finals not too long ago.

  • @SteveHyland stop crying and admit the fact that Utd have been denied goals many times this season . I can understand your jealousy against the most successful club in English football

  • @SteveHyland well you have to wonder why are they unmarked when they put the ball in to the net hahaha. And by the way, Cris Ronaldo won the Ballon D'or by scoring a lot of unmarked tap-ins lmao We can win by scoring the most beautiful goals, but we won by tap-ins, you know why? Because it burns your hater asses lol

  • @Bunnyff- Unmarked because the Southampton defence played like crap. Ronaldo scored a lot of crackers too not to mention his general play was excellent. A lot of his taps ins come from excellent positional play to get in those areas but both Lingard and Zlatan were loitering long enough for somebody to pick them up. You can win by tap-ins if it is good positional play but winning by essentially 2 Southampton errors and an idiot linesman is weak to say the least. I am not jealous of Utd incidentally, as an Arsenal fan I often admired how Fergie's Utd won despite not having as good a first XI as us. This Utd are fluking it.

  • @Bunnyff thumbs up bro

  • 2-3 Southampton

  • @NepCule Ouch.

  • @NepCule Watch us score 2 more to :D to win 4-2 ;)

  • @soccerisfootbal southampton has been the better team 2-3

  • @Laederlappen go and cry in a corner

  • What haunts Manchester United is poor finishing. In 4 created chances they get only 2 on target and luckily 1 goal. But am happy this days Zlatan attacking work rate is good although not sufficient. The top players always deliver. They are called the match winning players. Manchester United have them.. And still I noticed Southampton has a good defense. Might be 2-0 here for Manchester United

  • Win or draw for saints, Redmond or Gabbiadini to score the winning goal.

  • @AndreyNosatii you can't draw in a final

  • @_WL_ draw in the regular times, I mean x2 for Southampton.

  • GOONIES.

  • 2-0 to utd.

  • 2-1 win Manu

  • 1-1 before half time and last gaol to score IBRA.

  • All I wanna tell you all is that Manchester United Has Carrick for this match.. Peace!

  • Manu will be routed, and it's plastic fans gonna support Southampton after this match.

  • @NepCule cry baby cry

  • 32

  • 0-2, 2-2 then 3-2 in ET :) Rooney to score last one

  • 2-1, Zlatan to score the winning goal

  • 1 - 0

  • Southampton 2-0 Manchester United. United are too dependent on Zlatan for wins and goals and I see a disappointment and afterwards Jose Mourinho complaining everywhere how he is treated unfarly. The fact that Southampton haven't any goal en route this final should not be taken for granted

  • @0708915762 *Southampton haven't conceded any goal...

  • United Win comfortably.

  • 2-0 for UNITED,For Sure!

  • @akmal_akmal Well evidently not for sure.
