Team News

Port Vale
Cheltenham
  • Scott Burgess could be one of the more underrated midfielders in League Two; after coming in for Danny Whitehead, the former Bury man locked down the midfield next to Luke Joyce with his presence and assurance, handing extra freedom to the lively Tom Conlon.
  • James Gibbons has a hamstring injury while Zak Mills could also be absent, so returning Vale star Mitch Clark could continue to start at right-back, even if he prefers playing on the left.
  • Enigmatic magician Harry McKirdy is still to return for Vale.
  • George Lloyd missed the Mansfield game with concussion, which was a shame, because the academy graduate has been in great form; Alfie May looked understandably rusty having had limited game-time.
  • Midfielders Finn Azaz and Elliot Bonds missed out on the last match-day squad, but Tom Sang returned from injury to start.
  • Sean Long has missed the start of the season so Matty Blair could continue to start at right wing-back; the versatile Ellis Chapman has been absent since joining from Lincoln.

Prediction

  • Cheltenham Town are the only side in League Two to have collected maximum points so far from their away games, while also being the only ones yet to concede on the road; that back-three of ball-playing defender Charlie Raglan, midfielder turned centre-back Ben Tozer and aerial specialist Will Boyle will take some beating.
  • The defensive trio will be some test for Port Vale, who have got their playoff push back on track with two wins in their last three games after a lean goalless period; the return of unpredictable wide forward David Amoo has been a massive plus for John Askey's side.
  • Vale might be the first side this season to score against and take a point off Cheltenham.
