Team News

Port Vale
Bradford
  • Leon Legge came off the bench in the 5-0 EFL Trophy victory over Liverpool, after 10 weeks out and the veteran centre-back's return is welcomed, although Darrell Clarke is unlikely to drop Lewis Cass, Nathan Smith or Dan Jones just now.
  • If Clarke opts for a 3-4-3, he will have the luxury of being able to bring a midfielder like Jake Taylor or Ben Garrity off the bench, but if it's 3-5-2 then Dennis Politic could be the potential game-changer in reserve.
  • Yann Songo'o was excellent against Forest Green and may protect the defence at times, but at other times drop between Paudie O'Connor and Niall Canavan, especially when the Bantams are under the cosh.
  • Front-man Andy Cook is absent with a hamstring injury, so Lee Angol's return is timely; forwards Abo Eisa and Caolan Lavery are also injured.
  • Left-back Liam Ridehalgh remains sidelined, but Matty Foulds has been putting in some combative performances in his absence.

Prediction

  • Port Vale continued their fine season so far with a 5-1 FA Cup thumping of League One Accrington Stanley, with James Wilson scoring a hat-trick; David Amoo getting back fit is a huge boost for Darrell Clarke's side, who are arguably the best team in League Two right now.
  • Bradford City, meanwhile, are hoping to elevate themselves into promotion contention and can take some encouragement from recent 1-1 home draws and positive performances against front-runners Forest Green and Exeter, although the latter game was in the FA Cup.
  • The Bantams will try to gain territory by releasing Andy Cook or Theo Robinson up against a wide centre-back like Lewis Cass or Dan Jones in a channel one-on-one scenario, but they will also be compact, so Vale must rely on the creativity Tom Pett can provide from deep.
