Team News

Athletic Club
Rayo Vallecano
  • Yuri Berchiche and Peru Nolaskoain remain out after operations.
  • Forward Oihan Snacet is a fresh injury blow having picked up a knee problem, and he will likely be replaced by Asier Villalibre.
  • Yeray Alvarez is also out, and he is due to return at the end of September.
  • In general, changes are expected here given the short turnaround, and we could get to see the Williams brothers playing together again with Nico Williams standing a good chance of starting here.
  • Martin Marquelanz remains out with a knee injury and won't return until at least October.
  • There is a fresh doubt for Oscar Trejo, who has picked up a knock to his knee, but he has not been ruled out here.
  • Radamel Falcao will be knocking on the door after scoring on his debut last time out.

Prediction

  • Athletic Club have enjoyed a solid start to the campaign, picking up nine points from their first five games and remaining unbeaten, despite facing Barcelona and Atletico Madrid during those opening games.
  • Last time out, Marcelino's men drew 0-0 with Atletico Madrid, putting together a very organised defensive display to take a point home from the Wanda Metropolitano, but they will want to add to their two wins here against lesser opposition - on paper.
  • Rayo aren't to be taken lightly having enjoyed a very bright start to the season, especially after being written off by many following their surprise promotion back to the top flight.
  • The Vallecas side are now unbeaten in three games, beating Granada and Getafe comfortably either side of a draw with Levante.
  • Confidence will be high heading into this one, especially for Falcao, who scored on his debut last time out, but away from home against an organised Athletic, they are more likely than not to be second best here.
