Team News

Netherlands
Ecuador
  • Memphis Depay and Marten De Roon, who were both injury doubts, came off the bench in the Netherlands 2-0 win over Senegal, and could both play a part here.
  • Similarly, Louis Van Gaal may opt to bench them again in order to not aggravate their injuries.
  • Enner Valencia, the hero from their 2-0 win over Qatar, came off injured towards the end of the game and is a doubt to start here.
  • Should he remain injured, Gustavo Alfaro may opt for Michael Estrada as the sole striker.

Prediction

  • With both these sides on three points from a possible three, The Netherlands and Ecuador lock horns in their second match in Group A. A win for either side will put them in good stead to qualify from the group.
  • The Netherlands struggled to break down the Senegalese defence for 84 minutes until Cody Gakpo's strike broke the deadlock, giving them the lead in their 2-0 win over Senegal.
  • Ecuador were able to take advantage of a flat Qatar side, as they sweeped the hosts aside, rarely looking out of control. Enner Valencia is a doubt after his brace helped them on their way, after he came off with an injury in the second half.
  • The Netherlands look like the favourites, but Ecuador will have confidence after their opening result.

  • Third-in-the-group material

  • Incredibly entertaining match.

  • Well played Ecuador. Not the biggest names, but what a team and fighting spirit. Very tough team to defeat. V. Gaal said before the game that he was glad Ecuador adapted their tactics and played the same formation as the Netherlands. His argument was that Netherlands are the better team in this specific formation. No you weren't v. Gaal! Ecuador was better and they deserved the win!

  • @StickandMove and only ranked 7/10 among South American teams in FIFA rankings. South American teams outside of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are too often disrespected in Europe.

  • @StickandMove Im sure van Gaal meant better when his team was playing anywhere near their potential though, which they didn't. That's the beauty about football, you don't need the better players to win the game and you can take advantage of poor performing opposition by playing to your strengths like Ecuador did.

  • no red card and Neds only 2 shots? OMG

  • Respect Ecuador, 11 gladiators on the field.

  • I present you the worst performing top-tier team in the tournament so far: Netherlands In the second half they looked like a pub team.

  • @Big_Boss Germany, Belgium and Uruguay are way worse. If you consider the latter two top tier.

  • Bad game by the pie

  • Estupinan is amazing. Senegal-Equador will be thrill.

  • I hope Valencia didn't get any serious injury which will make him unavailable for the rest of the tournament...

  • Louis van Gaal is utter crap....only 2 shots so far?

  • Ecuador much better! Deserved equaliser there! Vamoooo!

  • @StickandMove They deserve the win at this point.

  • Ecuador on the receiving end of a couple of harsh offsides in this tournament.

  • @jonejo34 Offside is offside. VAR doesn't lie.

  • Completeley disagree, IMO bad disallowed the goal from Estupiñan, he was not offside and his partner did not participate in the play even he didn't touch the ball.

  • @dib You may disagree, but the goal was rightfully disallowed. The player who was standing in an offside position was interfering (positioned in the lane of the shot) with play by obstructing the view of the keeper.

  • Unbelievable the has been disallowed. Goalkeeper dived the opposite direction.

  • @StickandMove His fellow was in offside but in a passive way and he did not reach to touch the ball even. It's a big mistake from referee

  • @StickandMove still, the player who was offside obscured his view

  • @wilde yes

  • Luckbox Netherlands.

  • 2-0 de Jong

  • 3-1 Dutch, Valencia Scores

  • Ecuador will go defensive 2-0

  • Netherlands Win.

  • C'mon Ecuador! Punish the arrogance of the Dutch please! Here in Holland they talk without respect about your performances and they see you as a walk in the park.

  • @StickandMove To be fair, a win for The Netherlands would be a more likely outcome if you look at the quality. Even the Ecuador coach literally said that a possible loss is calculated in their proceedings.

  • draw

  • Netherlands to score over 1.5 goal goals @1.83

  • Bet W1

  • netherlands win 2-1/3-1
