Team News

Trabzonspor
Istanbul Basaksehir
  • Dorukhan Tokoz and Edin Visca are sidelined with long-term injuries.
  • Abdullah Avci used Jean-Phillipe Gbamin as a central defender in the humiliating 5-0 defeat at Alanya last time out. This time out, with Vitor Hugo suspended and Huseyin Turkmen injured, he is expected to field two recognised central defenders, Marc Bartra and Stefano Denswil.
  • Maximiliano Gomez has served his suspension and will return to the starting lineup.
  • Mesut Ozil has undergone a hip operation and will not be available until the end of January.
  • Mahmut Tekdemir will be in the holding midfielder role as Lucas Biglia is injured.
  • Bertrand Traore is also injured but he wasn't expected to start against Trabzonspor anyway.
  • Azubuike Okehuckwu's contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Prediction

  • Trabzonspor suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Alanyaspor last time out. Although Avci bemoaned their missed chances, he had no excuse for his team's scandalous defensive performance. Trabzonspor are far from the side that impressed as they reached the title last season. They are still creating chances and can be mesmerizing in attack, but their defending has simply been below-par since the start of this season. Avci's position has also began to be questioned by local media, known for their impatience when it comes to managers. This is a key game in the title-holders' season and they couldn't have asked for a worse opponent.
  • Basaksehir beat Adana Demirspor 2-1 last time out. The fairer result would have been a draw as Basaksehir did concede quite a few chances and were lucky that their guests had a horrid day in front of goal. Other than the humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of Galatasaray, Belozoglu's away performance against stronger sides have relied on frustrating their opponents with aggressive, disciplined defending not only at the back but all over the pitch, not allowing any space or time for their talented players to take control of the game. Expect a similar performance here.
