- Dundee boss Tony Docherty made two changes from the Dee's Scottish Premiership opener, where they were held at home by Motherwell in a 1-1 draw before falling to a 2-1 defeat to St Mirren in Paisley the weekend before last.
- Trevor Carson made his Dundee debut between the sticks, conceding twice to his former club. That included an own goal from Joe Shaughnessy, part of the defensive trio in front of him who was joined by Lee Ashcroft and Jordan McGhee.
- The only outfield alteration saw Josh Mulligan take the aforementioned McGhee's spot in midfield. Mexican defender Antonio Portales - who Mulligan replaced - is out of his knee brace after injuring his ligaments within six minutes of his Scottish Premiership debut.
- Hearts' management made four changes after the Jambos' comfortable 4-0 victory against Partick Thistle in the Scottish League Cup, before their 2-1 defeat to Greek outfit PAOK at Tynecastle in their Europa Conference League playoff first leg.
- Stephen Kingsley and Nathaniel Atkinson came in to start at left and right-back respectively, replacing Calem Nieuwenhof and weekend debutant Odel Offiah who scored against their Championship opponents.
- Cammy Devlin took Toby Sibbick's spot in midfield, to accompany Alex Cochrane who is suspended for the first three league games of the season including this one. Liam Boyce replaced Alex Lowry in support of lone striker Lawrence Shankland.
