Team News

Aberdeen
Celtic
  • Barry Robson's Aberdeen kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 draw away to Livingston on the opening day in their first competitive match, with European group-stage football awaiting them regardless of what happens in their playoff.
  • Two of Aberdeen's back three, Nicky Devlin and Slobodan Rubezic, made their Dons debuts against Livi alongside Jack MacKenzie and they'll be pleased with keeping a clean sheet against the Lions in West Lothian.
  • Shayden Morris started at right wing-back with Jonny Hayes on the left. Graeme Shinnie was accompanied by Dante Polvara in front of the back four with Leighton Clakson supporting Duk and Bojan Miovski.
  • The second Brendan Rodgers era at Celtic kicked off with a 4-2 win on flag day against Ross County, as the reigning champions and treble winners picked up where they left off.
  • Maik Nawrocki made his Celtic debut, partnering Cameron Carter-Vickers in the Hoops' backline, and was the only summer arrival to start against the Staggies. Swedish defender Carl Starfelt has swapped Celtic for Celta Vigo in Spain.
  • David Turnbull, who bagged a brace, and Matt O'Riley, who also got his name on the scoresheet, accompanied club captain Callum McGregor in midfield. Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada supported the Celts' main marksman Kyogo Furuhashi.

Prediction

  • The only two Scottish sides who are guaranteed European group stage football so far, Aberdeen and Celtic, meet on Sunday lunchtime at Pittodrie.
  • The Dons will be disappointed that they didn't kick off their campaign by bringing three points back up to Pittodrie from the Tony Macaroni Arena. Aberdeen travel to Stirling Albion next Friday night in the League Cup, before the first leg of their Europa League playoff the following Thursday. Fixtures are coming thick and fast so they'll want to grab that first victory as soon as they can.
  • Celtic weren't at their sparkling best but ultimately kicked off the campaign with a victory over Ross County, already opening a three-point gap over rivals Rangers given the Gers succumbed to an opening day defeat against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Still awaiting the Champions League group draw, the Hoops can place their full focus on domestic matters and try to gather momentum.
  • Aberdeen failed to score in their four league meetings with Celtic last season, the visitors claiming a 12-0 aggregate victory over the hosts and they'll want to keep that wonderful recent record going.
