Team News

Rangers
Motherwell
  • Rangers manager Michael Beale named four changes to the Gers team that won 2-0 in Perth on league duty against St Johnstone, before winning their Europa League opener 1-0 against Real Betis at Ibrox on Thursday night.
  • Borna Barisic returned to the starting eleven, replacing Ridvan Yilmaz at left back. James Tavernier, Ben Davies and Connor Goldson kept their places in defence. Jose Cifuentes replaced the injured Nicolas Raskin in midfield.
  • Todd Cantwell and Kieran Dowell are both sidelined through injury. In attack, Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo took midweek substitute Sam Lammers and the injured Danilo's places to support Kemar Roofe up front.
  • Stuart Kettlewell named an enforced change from Motherwell's first win at Tynecastle against Hearts in four years, prior to the international break, before they fell to defeat against St Mirren at Fir Park by the same 1-0 scoreline.
  • Paul McGinn was sent off after two yellow cards, so missed the match against St Mirren. Shane Blaney replaced him, to accompany Bevis Mugabi and Dan Casey in the Well's back three.
  • Stephen O'Donnell and Brodie Spencer continued at right and left wing-back respectively. Harry Paton and Lennon Miller started in Motherwell's midfield with Callum Slattery and Blair Spittal supporting lone striker Theo Bair.

Prediction

  • Fourth hosts third, heading into the weekend's fixtures, as Rangers take on Motherwell at Ibrox in one of two Scottish Premiership matches this Sunday.
  • The Gers began their Europa League adventure with a 1-0 win against La Liga outfit Real Betis, in what wasn't the prettiest showing against the Spaniards but ultimately yielded three points. It's great that their continental campaign began with a victory but they'd love to turn their European success into domestic points given they're lagging behind bitter rivals Celtic in the league table.
  • As for Motherwell, the Steelmen slipped to their first defeat of the Scottish Premiership season against high-flying St Mirren. Whilst the result didn't arrive, the performance was a positive one but the Well can be pleased with the start that they've made to the current campaign. Their league record against Rangers doesn't need repeating but they'd love to right those wrongs this weekend.
  • Motherwell will hope to take advantage of a potentially fatigued Rangers, given the Gers have played in midweek but the hosts can't afford any more slip-ups as they track down Celtic.
