- Derek McInnes named one sole change to the Kilmarnock team that conceded a last-gasp equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Dundee at Dens Park, before they were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup losing 2-1 to Hearts at Rugby Park.
- Four centre backs of Robbie Deas, Stuart Findlay, Joe Wright and Lewis Mayo made up the back four in front of goalkeeper Will Dennis. Killie opted for a five-man midfield with David Watson joining Kyle Magennis and Brad Lyons in midfield.
- That meant Marley Watkins dropped out of the starting eleven as Matty Kennedy and Danny Armstrong looked to provide the width. Club captain Kyle Vassell started as Kilmarnock's sole striker.
- Stephen Robinson named two changes to the St Mirren side that beat Hearts at home 1-0 in their last Scottish Premiership match, before the Buddies crashed out of the Scottish League Cup after losing 4-2 to Hibernian at Easter Road.
- Keanu Baccus scored the Buddies' second equaliser in Edinburgh, coming off the substitutes bench to do so, after Caolan Boyd-Munce took his spot in the Saints' starting eleven to accompany club captain Mark O'Hara.
- A slight change of shape saw Greg Kiltie support two strikers as opposed to just one. The only other alteration from the weekend win saw Mikael Mandron take Conor McMenamin's place in attack to join Toyosi Olusanya up front.
