Team News

St. Mirren
Aberdeen
  • Stephen Robinson named an unchanged St Mirren side after they beat Dundee 2-1 in Paisley in their last Scottish Premiership match, before they booked their spot in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final thanks to a 1-0 win against Motherwell.
  • Mark O'Hara - who fired the Buddies ahead at Easter Road - was replaced in the starting eleven by Caolan Boyd-Munce, who netter the winner against Motherwell last weekend and book a quarter-final tie against Hibernian in Edinburgh.
  • Toyosi Olusanya - who put the Buddies two to the good in their league opener in the capital - was replaced by Mikael Mandron. The former Motherwell striker scored what proved to be the winner against Dundee in their last league game.
  • Barry Robson named an unchanged Aberdeen team after the Dons' 2-1 victory over Striling Albion in the Scottish League Cup round of 16, before a phenomenal fightback saw them claim a 2-2 draw with BK Häcken in Sweden in midweek.
  • New signings Richard Jensen, Jamie McGrath and James McGarry were all on the bench for the first leg of their Europa League playoff encounter in Gothenburg, with the tie evenly poised at Pittodrie next week.
  • The Dons' only absentee of note is Liverpool loanee Rhys Williams who is out with a back injury. Other than the 22-year-old Englishman, Aberdeen should have a fully fit squad to select from in Paisley.

Prediction

  • St Mirren are one of only two teams to have taken maximum Scottish Premiership points so far this season, against an Aberdeen side yet to claim a league victory in the 2023/24 campaign so far.
  • The Buddies are enjoying a fantastic start to the season, winning every match since a 1-0 defeat to Montrose in their Scottish League Cup opener. Saints have their sights set on that trophy, just over a decade after winning it for the first time. St Mirren finished in the top six spots of the top tier for the first time since 1985 last season, and they're aiming to do so again after a great start.
  • As for Aberdeen, it's been a stuttering start domestically but they're distracted by a Euro adventure. It could've been easy to crumble in Sweden, two goals down, but a phenomenal fightback means that they're back to square one and a game away from a spot in the second-highest tier of continental club competition. With the second leg to come, a win here would be a big boost.
  • St Mirren won the only league meeting in Paisley last season between the two teams. Despite losing two of the other three matches at Pittodrie, the Buddies will want to take advantage of a potentially-fatigued Aberdeen in this one.
