Team News

St. Johnstone
Rangers
  • St Johnstone boss Steven MacLean made two changes to the Saints side that claimed a point at Parkhead in a 0-0 stalemate with Celtic, before they clinched a dramatic 2-2 draw against Dundee prior to the international break.
  • Oludare Olufunwa was replaced by James Brown in the Saints back four, to accompany Sam McClelland, Andy Considine and Luke Robinson. Max Kucheriavyi came off the bench to bag a brace in the Tayside derby so could start in this one.
  • The only other alteration saw Stevie May replace Luke Jephcott in attack. Chris Kane returned against Dundee, eventually making his long-awaited comeback from injury.
  • Rangers manager Michael Beale named three changes to the Gers team that were destroyed 5-1 by Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, before they fell to a defeat on derby day as they lost 1-0 to Celtic in the first Old Firm of the season.
  • Dujon Sterling replaced the injured Borna Barisic at left back. However, the Croat has linked up with his international team during the break so could accompany James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and John Souttar in the back four.
  • Ryan Jack replaced John Lundstram to play alongside Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin in midfield. And up front, Kemar Roofe replaced Jose Cifuentes to join Rabbi Matondo in support of Cyriel Dessers.

Prediction

  • St Johnstone's 2-1 victory in Perth over Rangers last season proved Giovanni van Bronckhorst's final defeat as Gers manager.
  • Saints would love another league win against the Gers, given they're currently without a victory in the league so far this season. Defeats to Hearts and Ross County in their opening two matches would've caused concern, before a solid defensive display against Celtic and a great show of character against Dundee in the Tayside derby. A point again here, or all three, would be beneficial.
  • Rangers will have wanted to use the international break as a chance to hit the reset button and essentially get back to the drawing board. The week before the break proved a disaster and pressure is beginning to build but that's part and parcel of playing or managing the football club. You're expected to compete and win trophies, so the Gers can't afford any slip-ups again already.
  • Despite defeat in their last league match in Perth, Rangers responded by knocking St Johnstone out of the Scottish Cup on their last visit to McDiarmid Park and will want to claim three points there this weekend.
