Team News

Hibernian
Motherwell
  • Hibs boss Nick Montgomery named three changes to the Hibernian team that fell to defeat against St Johnstone in Perth, before late disappointment in the derby after Hearts won at Easter Road by the same 1-0 scoreline.
  • Rocky Bushiri replaced Paul Hanlon in the Hibees' backline, to join Lewis Miller, Will Fish and Jordan Obita. Joe Newell returned in midfield, at Jimmy Jeggo's expense.
  • Josh Campbell was also included, but was forced off in the derby through injury, as Élie Youan was sat among the substitutes. In attack, Dylan Vente joined Martin Boyle - who had a penalty saved - as Hibs went back-to-back games without scoring.
  • Stuart Kettlewell named three changes to the Motherwell team after the Well fell to a Christmas Eve defeat to Rangers where they lost 2-0 at Fir Park, before ending their wait for a win as they beat Livingston 3-1 to round off 2023.
  • Georgie Gent and Brodie Spencer continued at left wing-back and right wing-back respectively. However, Paul McGinn joined Shane Blaney and Stephen O'Donnell in the back three at Bevis Mugabi's expense.
  • Davor Zdravkovski and Blair Spittal - who fired Motherwell in front - were the two chosen in midfield. Callum Slattery and Harry Paton made way for Oli Shaw and Theo Bair, who bagged a brace against Livi, to join Mika Biereth up front.

Prediction

  • Sixth hosts eighth, as Hibernian take on Motherwell at Easter Road with the hosts left downhearted and the visitors buoyant after their last Scottish Premiership matches of the year.
  • The Hibees have lost back-to-back Scottish Premiership games and three of their last four, with a sole goal success over Livingston the only noteworthy result in their last quartet of league games. Individual errors have seen them lose to both St Johnstone and Hearts. They're only five points ahead of a Motherwell team that couldn't buy a victory before the weekend, looking to respond accordingly in this one.
  • The Well finally arrested their rotten recent run, as they picked up a first Scottish Premiership victory since their last trip to Edinburgh - back in the first week of September - where they beat Hearts by a sole goal at Tynecastle. 15 league games followed that win against the Jambos, with only six points picked up out of a possible 45. Motherwell have some making up to do, looking to put 2023 firmly behind them.
  • Hibs will look to make home advantage count in this one, but Motherwell will be encouraged by their long-overdue victory and will hope to hold the Hibees at home here.
