Team News

St. Johnstone
Rangers
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein named five changes to the Saints side that lost their midweek match at McDiarmid Park 1-0 to Hearts, before a 2-1 defeat to Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday.
  • Club captain Liam Gordon and January signing Kerr Smith, making his first Saints start, entered the back three as Ryan McGowan and Fran Franczak dropped out. Goalscorer Matt Smith replaced Connor Smith in the middle of the park.
  • Tony Gallacher made way for David Keltjens to enter the Saints midfield. Max Kucheriavyi also dropped onto the bench as Adama Sidibeh, another making his first Saints start, partnered Benjamin Kimpioka in attack.
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named seven changes from the Gers knocking Scottish Championship side Ayr United out of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 victory on Saturday evening, before a 3-1 victory over Ross County on Wednesday night.
  • Jack Butland retained his place in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Ridvan Yilmaz, who replaced Borna Barisic. Tom Lawrence and John Lundstram took Ryan Jack and Nicolas Raskin's places in midfield.
  • Ross McCausland and Rabbi Matondo started on the flanks, replacing Oscar Cortés and Scott Wright, as Todd Cantwell - who came in for Mohammed Diomande - supported Cyriel Dessers up front as he bagged a brace against County at Ibrox.

Prediction

  • Third bottom hosts second top, as St Johnstone play Rangers at McDiarmid Park in this Sunday's sole Scottish Premiership fixture.
  • Saints will be disappointed that they left Dens defeated by Dundee, particularly having taken an early lead against their Tayside rivals. However, they're still five points clear of Ross County who occupy the relegation playoff place. Five points behind the aforementioned Dundee, Saints are amongst a few teams that could gatecrash the top six spots but they have to start winning soon.
  • Rangers spurned the chance to overtake Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table but, most importantly, picked up three points against Ross County to move level on points and goal difference with the league leaders. The Hoops host Kilmarnock on Saturday, so attention then turns to the Gers' trip to Perth regardless of the outcome at Celtic Park less than 24 hours before.
  • Having hauled themselves level with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Rangers have to find a way to keep winning and apply the pressure so should get the better of St Johnstone on Sunday.
