Team News

Celtic
Kilmarnock
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named three changes to the Celts side that left it late to win 2-1 at Easter Road against Hibernian in their last league match, before progressing in the Scottish Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over St Mirren in Paisley.
  • Alistair Johnston was substituted through injury in Edinburgh, so Anthony Ralston took the Canadian's spot at right-back. Alexandro Bernabei, Liam Scales and Stephen Welsh made up the rest of the Hoops' defence.
  • Luis Palma replaced Nicolas Kühn to start on the left-hand side of midfield. Paulo Bernardo moved to the bench as Kyogo Furuhashi, who opened the scoring against Saints on Sunday, supported Adam Idah who was the matchwinner against Hibs.
  • Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes named six changes to the Killie team that left it late against Livingston with a 1-0 win at Rugby Park, before they advanced into the Scottish Cup quarter-final thanks to a 2-0 victory over Cove Rangers.
  • Corrie Ndaba replaced Joe Wright in the Killie back three, joining Stuart Findlay and Lewis Mayo. Liam Donnelly and Greg Stewart dropped out of midfield, as Rory McKenzie and Liam Polworth were handed a start against the League One outfit.
  • Thomas Davies and Danny Armstrong were replaced by Matty Kennedy and Fraser Murray on the left and right-hand side respectively. Kevin van Veen made his first Killie start to join Marley Watkins at club captain Kyle Vassell's expense.

Prediction

  • Both Celtic and Kilmarnock left it late in their last league matches, before they comfortably advanced into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals but avoided one another in the cup draw.
  • The Hoops have hung onto top spot for the time being, despite Rangers levelling the league leaders' games played, points total and goal difference, so the title race is beginning to heat up. With Scottish Premiership performances lacking recently, Celtic need to up the ante in order to retain their league title. They could apply pressure to Rangers on Sunday with a convincing win this weekend.
  • Killie can take comfort from the fact that they've beaten Celtic twice already this season, knocking them out of the League Cup back in August before a comeback Scottish Premiership victory in December. Sat in fourth for the time being, Kilmarnock have a tough trio of fixtures ahead as they play all of last season's top three. Having lost at Parkhead back in October, a point here would be a positive one.
  • Given proceedings at the top of the Premiership table, Celtic will want a comfortable victory over Killie on Saturday before all eyes are on Rangers when they play St Johnstone on Sunday.
