Team News

Rangers
Celtic
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named two changes from the Gers team that crashed out of the Europa League thanks to a 1-0 defeat to Benfica, before their 3-1 victory over Hibernian upon their return to league action.
  • Ridvan Yilmaz picked up an injury on international duty with Turkey, so Borna Barisic took his place in the Gers defence to join James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and John Souttar. John Lundstram and Mohamed Diomande continued in midfield.
  • Tom Lawrence dropped onto the bench, as Todd Cantwell joined Scott Wright and Fabio Silva in support of lone striker Cyriel Dessers. Abdallah Sima was fit enough to feature for ten minutes off the bench after being out for two months through injury.
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named two changes to the Celts side that clinched a 3-1 win at home to St Johnstone before the international break, as they swept Livingston aside 3-0 in West Lothian last Sunday afternoon.
  • Liam Scales returned to join Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor in the back four - at Stephen Welsh's expense - for the short trip along the M8. If captain Callum McGregor is fit, he should return in the middle of the park.
  • Reo Hatate came back into midfield against Livi, making his first start since October, as he accompanied compatriot Tomoki Iwata and Matt O'Riley with Paulo Bernardo dropping onto the bench.

Prediction

  • Glasgow's top two meet for the third time this season, in a huge top-of-the-table clash, as Rangers host Celtic at Ibrox in Sunday's sole Scottish Premiership fixture.
  • The Gers trail Celtic by a point, having played a game fewer due to the Dens Park postponement debacle before the international break, but are yet to beat their bitter rivals this season. Rangers won the Scottish League Cup without needing to play the Hoops, but will still have a league meeting at Parkhead to play along with the possibility of an Old Firm Scottish Cup final if they get past Hearts.
  • Celtic have won both Scottish Premiership meetings with Rangers this season, as a sole goal was enough to win at Ibrox back in September before a 2-1 victory at Parkhead in the final league game of 2023. Their need to win probably isn't as great as the hosts' - given the Hoops are away from home - as they still have the comfort blanket of a fourth and final league meeting at Celtic Park.
  • Celtic have had Rangers' number so far this season but if the Gers want to win the Scottish Premiership this season, the likelihood is that they'll need to have beaten their city rivals at Ibrox.
