Team News

Dundee FC
St. Mirren
  • Dundee manager Tony Docherty made two changes from the Dee team that clinched a second successive 0-0 draw, against Rangers at Dens Park, before they scarcely lost 2-1 at home to Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
  • Club captain Joe Shaughnessy's season is over after suffering a cruciate ligament injury, and he was replaced by Antonio Portales who scored against Celtic but it proved no more than a consolation goal.
  • Josh Mulligan replaced Lyall Cameron, who was omitted from the matchday squad, in midfield. Luke McCowan took the armband, as he and Scott Tiffoney supported Amadou Bakayoko in attack.
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson made four changes after the Buddies were battered 3-0 at Parkhead against Celtic, before Saints narrowly lost 2-1 to Rangers in Paisley last Sunday.
  • James Bolton replaced Richard Taylor at the back for the Buddies. Elvis Bwomono was forced off against the Hoops, so was on the bench against Rangers after a concussion, as Ryan Strain took his spot at right wing-back.
  • Conor McMenamin joined Greg Kiltie in support of the incoming Mikael Mandron, who netted their equaliser, as the ill Keanu Baccus and Toyosi Olusanya were both sat amongst the substitutes last Sunday.

Prediction

  • Sixth-placed Dundee host St Mirren sat in fifth, both teams angling for that fifth spot in the Scottish Premiership table that will result in European qualifiers being played next campaign.
  • The Dee's rotten recent record against Celtic continued, with Dundee failing to taste victory against the Hoops since a 2-0 success in Glasgow back in May 2001. Having now lost their last ten league matches against the Hoops, only from October 1965 to October 1971 have Dundee had a longer losing run against Celtic (13). Put that behind them and they could leapfrog Saints to fifth.
  • The Buddies haven't played European football since 1987, so would love to clinch a victory at Dens Park and turn continental dreams into a reality. Defeat to Rangers meant that Saints have lost three Scottish Premiership matches on the spin for the second time this season, also doing so between November and December. A potential point here, or ideally all three, could prove pivotal.
  • St Mirren have won both league meetings between the two teams in Paisley this season, but Dundee demolished Saints 4-0 at Dens in November and will hope for a second success over them this weekend.
