Team News

Monaco
Saint-Etienne
  • Monaco come off the back of a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Barcelona in their final pre-season friendly.
  • Starting goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki has suffered an ankle injury which likely sees him out of action for up to two months. It gives an opportunity to German goalkeeper Phillip Köhn to retake the spot he lost midway through last season.
  • Youssouf Fofana could be close to a move away from the club, he didn't feature in Monaco's last friendly against Barça. It means new recruit Lamine Camara (Metz) can step into Monaco's new-look midfield alongside Denis Zakaria.
  • No injuries or suspensions for Olivier Dall'Oglio's side.

Prediction

  • Saint-Étienne make their return to Ligue 1 for the first time since 2021, whilst Monaco are looking forward to a campaign which will see them return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in six years.
  • Monaco have had the upper hand in recent head-to-head meetings against Les Verts. ASM have won their last three Ligue 1 games against St Etienne and, if they win, can equal their best run against this opponent in the top-flight after April 1991-October. Both sides are highly motivated, but Adi Hütter's side will look to use their home advantage to get their campaign off to a positive start.
