Team News

Dundee FC
Hearts
  • Dundee manager Tony Docherty handed Scottish Premiership debuts to three summer signings and a youth academy graduate in a thrilling 2-2 Dundee derby draw at Tannadice to kick off the season at the home of arch rivals Dundee United.
  • Young centre-back Luke Graham made his league debut for the Dee, accompanying Jordan McGhee and Antonio Portales in the back three. Wing-back duo Ethan Ingram - signed from West Brom - and QPR loanee Ziyad Larkeche made their first Dee starts.
  • A familiar midfield trio of Luke McCowan, Mo Sylla and Lyall Cameron started in midfield. Simon Murray made his second league debut for Dundee away to his former club and his new strike partner Seb Palmer-Houlden netted the first equaliser.
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith named three summer signings in the Jambos' starting eleven, which was held at home by Rangers in a goalless draw at Tynecastle to kick off the Scottish Premiership season on Saturday.
  • Costa Rican international right-back Gerald Taylor was impressive on his league debut for Hearts, with fellow full-back James Penrice also making his competitive debut for the Jambos. Kye Rowles and Frankie Kent started in the centre of defence.
  • Jorge Grant and Cammy Devlin sat in front of the new-look back four. Barrie McKay and summer signing Yan Dhanda started in support of Kenneth Vargas and star striker Lawrence Shankland up front.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's Scottish Premiership top six do battle at Dens Park, as Dundee host Hearts in Saturday evening's sole league fixture.
  • Dundee are now winless in their last five Scottish Premiership opening weekends, following a cracking Dundee derby at Tannadice where they came from behind twice, having not won since victory over Ross County on the opening day of the league campaign in 2016/17. The Dee haven't won at United since 2004 but, having responded twice, a point certainly isn't the worst result.
  • Heart of Midlothian had won on the first matchday in their previous three Scottish Premiership seasons, with their goalless draw against Rangers being the first time they've failed to win their season opener in the top tier since 2019/20. Hearts are unbeaten in three league fixtures with Dundee, scoring three goals in each of them, but lost 1-0 at Dens last August in the first meeting.
  • Dundee showed their offensive prowess but defensive deficiencies on derby day, so Hearts will hope to claim all three points against the Dee and keep their strong recent record against them intact.
