Team News

Hearts
St. Johnstone
  • Hearts boss Neil Critchley named four changes after the Jambos were beaten by Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in a sole goal defeat last Sunday, before they crashed out of the Europa Conference League on Thursday night at Tynecastle.
  • Craig Gordon continued in goal behind an unchanged back four of Daniel Oyegoke, Craig Halkett, Kye Rowles and James Penrice as Maltese minnows CS Petrocub drew 2-2 with them in Gorgie.
  • Macauley Tait replaced Malachi Boateng in the middle of the park to accompany Cammy Devlin. Musa Drammeh and Blair Spittal made way for Yan Dhanda and Lawrence Shankland to support James Wilson - in for Kenneth Vargas - up front.
  • St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari named two changes to the Saints side picked up a point at Pittodrie in a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen, before they succumbed to a late loss to St Mirren 3-2 at McDiarmid Park last weekend.
  • Josh Rae continued in goal behind a back four of Drey Wright at left-back, Kyle Bozo Mikulic who replaced Kyle Cameron, Jack Sanders and Lewis Neilson at right-back who is ineligible to face his parent club this weekend.
  • Sven Sprangler was suspended, so Adama Sidibeh joined Matt Smith and Jason Holt in midfield. Nicky Clark supported Makenzie Kirk, who has scored three goals in four games, and Benji Kimpioka - who also netted against Saints - in attack.

Prediction

  • The Scottish Premiership's bottom two teams go toe-to-toe at Tynecastle as Hearts host St Johnstone on Sunday afternoon.
  • An embarrassing draw with Moldovan minnows CS Petrocub eliminated Hearts from the Europa Conference League despite winning their opening two matches and previously being in a superb position to qualify. No European football after Christmas could possibly prove a blessing with no additional games, as the Jambos sit bottom of the Premiership pile which is simply unacceptable.
  • St Johnstone fell to eleventh after Hibs beat fellow relegation rivals Ross County at Easter Road, and they found themselves on the wrong end of some late drama in Perth as St Mirren left it late to leave McDiarmid Park with all three points. Saints have picked up more points on the road (8) than they have at home (6) and a win against fellow strugglers Hearts would be a huge boost.
  • Hearts emerged victorious in Perth against St Johnstone in the reverse fixture, but Saints could pile huge pressure on the Jambos if they picked up a first victory against them since February 2022.
