Team News

Magdeburg
Schalke
  • Summer signings Robert Leipertz and Marcus Mathisen are among five confirmed absentees for Magdeburg this weekend.
  • Andi Hoti, Bryan Teixeira, Philipp Hercher and Tatsuya Ito were all on the bench for the game against Eintracht Braunschweig but should start here.
  • Ron Schallenberg was sent off during the 3-1 defeat against Nürnberg and will miss the trip to the MDCC Arena.
  • Karel Geraerts will also be without Paul Seguin and Tomas Kalas after they were absent from the squad in the DFB-Pokal last time out.

Prediction

  • Magdeburg claimed their first league win of the season in commanding fashion two weeks ago, scoring twice in the space of four second-half minutes as they beat Eintracht Braunschweig 3-1. The visitors followed this up with a disappointing cup defeat against Offenbach, but remain unbeaten in the league.
  • Schalke were heading into half time against Nürnberg with a 1-0 lead following an impressive first-half performance, but a Ron Schallenberg red card decimated their game plan and allowed their hosts to flip the result. Karel Geraerts will be keen to leave that game behind him, and a 2-0 DFB-Pokal win against Aalen has helped.
