Team News

Barcelona
Atletico
  • Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Neymar have not been training with the rest of the squad this week. Each has undergone a specific training regime. Pique looks unlikely to play and the same goes for Neymar, but Alba is expected to recover in time.
  • Carles Puyol, who is certain to leave the club this summer, had a homage paid to him on Thursday for his years of service.
  • Another Barca stalwart, injured goalkeeper Victor Valdes, this week wrote an open letter to say goodbye to the only club he has ever played for.
  • Diego Godin is again available after his ban and will likely return to partner Miranda in defence.
  • Doubts remain about the fitness of star striker Diego Costa, but the Hispano-Brazilian did partake in training with the squad on Thursday and is expected to start.

Prediction

  • This is it. The winner takes all in this game, while a draw will see Atletico crowned champions. Not since 1951 has La Liga been decided on the final day of the season between the top two teams fighting for it. This is, for all intents and purposes, a final like any other and it should not disappoint.
  • Atletico are going for an historic double this season, as they are also in the final of the Champions League. Barcelona are their last remaining obstacle to win the league and they definitely have the capacity to, at the very least, draw, even with the game being playing at Camp Nou. Just weeks ago in the quarter finals of the Champions League, Atletico went to the Ciudad Condal and secured a richly deserved draw. They just need to repeat that performance and La Liga will be theirs.
  • Atletico coach Diego Simeone is being tipped to name the same XI who drew with Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League. This means that Diego Costa will be included, despite not being 100% fit. He is unlikely to last the whole game, but Simeone will not mind. He wants his strongest XI and will demand the maximum effort from his players, even with the Champions League final just a week away.
  • Barcelona must be pleasantly surprised by their situation. They seemingly had thrown in the towel after drawing with Getafe the week before last. Coach Tata Martino, Xavi and Sergio Busquests all were looking ahead to the future, rather than the present. Yet still, they now have the chance to win La Liga and can do so in front of their home fans. Barca, like Atletico, have not been in great form of late, but just like the visitors, expect them to lift their game for this 'final'.
  • Neymar is unlikely to feature, at least from the start, and with injuries to Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba, Barca will not be at full strength. In defence is where Barca will suffer the most should Pique not recover in time. Marc Bartra has come up short in the big games this season and his partnership with Javier Mascherano is one that has been exposed when tested properly.
  • Barca, like always, will dominate possession, but they have lacked penetration in recent games and have failed to create clear-cut chances. This will suit Atletico perfectly, as they will be happy to sit back and be organised and discplined in defence and look to hurt the hosts in the counter attack.
  • There will not be many goals in this game and, indeed, it will be the little details that count. For this reason, the two coaches will play a big part in the outcome and one has to think that any contest between the two would see Simeone come out on top.

  • looking at this 7 years later and still gives me the chills

  • Concratulations Athleti! Very memorable game :)

  • Atleti win La Liga and still the front pages of Marca are dominated by Barca and Real Madrid headlines..........SHEEEEESSH

  • Fantastic for Spanish & world football!

  • Where are those who said Atletico reminds them of Liverpool?

  • Atletico Madrid congratulations Just champion league 2013-2014

  • Barca fans downvoting everythin, lol...

  • bravooo madridsta beat the crup out of barcelona

  • the way Atleti came out in second half was reminiscent of the brilliant second leg of CL against Barca. We were down a goal, missing two key players, as well as two substitutions. Simeone sure knows how to motivate his lads

  • Congrats Atleti and Simeone , brilliant game ! And you got what you deserved...I'd stick my neck out to say Koke and Simeone are rare gems in modern football.

  • And its a shame , that despite being 99,000 capacity stadium you cant allott even mere 5 % of your tickets to rivals just because of narcissism and cynical abundance. Its downright killing of sportmanship and you were served.

  • @soul_snatcher killing of sportsmanship yet the entire Camp Nou applauded Atletico after the match? When have Real EVER done that? Just shut up.

  • @bradley.panton when u were not born yet. 2006 we applauded Ronaldinho.

  • I dont have words to describe how shrewd and nous coach Simeone is. He hardly spent big bucks but all those bucks were restituted by his footballing brilliance. I expect Atleti to win but wthout 2 key players it was also kinda difficult on away turf. Hats off. see you in lisbon city rivals ! Congratulations..

  • Congratulations Atletico! Very well deserved

  • 10 tackles, 3 key passes, and an assist from Koke. And stats tell only fraction of the story. Koke is a complete player. What a season that he had.

  • After all the diving , smuggish attitude of barca fans cum players as well management by allotting mere 500 tickets they coudnt beat Atleti. Shame on this club , evil of football. David Villa has the last laugh

  • Strong aerially CB needed..!!

  • Congratulations! Even the Camp Nou is applauding them - well deserved Atletico.

  • What a brilliant coach simeone is , he turned it around after dismal 1st half.

  • Welldone Atleti..

  • Who's next ? HUAHUAHUAHUA !!!

  • @rust.cohle Brilliant name!

  • Sensational achievement from Simeone and Atletico. It seemed they wanted it more, it showed in that last match. Now to do the double.

  • This Atletico team might be the greatest team of all time. Stress on the word team here. The way they fight and run for each other all game is amazing.

  • Well deserved Atleti

  • :)

  • HAHA

  • campeonessss campeonessss atleti atleti campeonessss campeonessss atleti atleti

  • Barcelona-Atletico 2-3

  • Lechiffre10, you must know nothing of Spanish football. The away support is never allocated huge numbers of supporters. Also, have you not seen atleti play acting either? In this match, they have spent 10 mins on the ground alone. All Spanish teams do it. Just because Atleti are a smaller club, people treat them like a little love child. Grow up.

  • Barca fans, in all honesty how can you support this team? They cheat, dive and constantly complain to refs. They allocated 500 tickets to Atletico fans at a 98,000 capacity stadium. Im at loss for words how anyone can support this type of lack of sportsmanship.

  • Athlethico to leave late but will surely win the league

  • Hope Raul Garcia scores some miraculous header and the full-time result is a draw.

  • whoever you support but you got to agree that was an amazing goal.

  • Oh god, If Barca win this I will feel so bad for Atletico, Seems a lot like how Liverpool had their title snatched by Chelsea.

  • @Miike not chelsea's fault Liverpool slipped up

  • @khonda *Gerrard slipped up...

  • @khonda Well... It was, but there job is to win games obviously.

  • If Barca wins then there's no God. Seriously. What a shameful way to get the title! I hope they rot.

  • @SargentBoston lol, 21st century, and still believing in God.

  • @DelJuve That wasn't the point, dude. Take it as figure of speech, nothing more.

  • Barcelona pulling off award winning play acting in the last game. I hate this team with a passion

  • What just happened to Costa!?

  • @SargentBoston Hamstring injury

  • @Focus I can't tell but he was crying so it must be quite bad. Turan had a dead leg.

  • @Focus Weak! That dude is so unlucky.

  • @Focus How bad was it?

  • Diege Simeone's pep talk - "We feast on Barca today, Real next week. One at a time, boys - we will devour them all !!"

  • 2-2 or 0-2 or 1-0

  • barca will screw at.madrid! messi will have his game face ON. Barca 3-1 At. Madrid

  • Hoping for a great spectacle towards dedicated ardent la liga fans and enthusiasts regardless who wins.

  • @Excelsior_rmcf Agreed. Anyone but Real...

  • I see RM fans supporting AM. Wait will 24th May RM fans, AM will sodomise you and your team. What what, in the butt!

  • @Elbombardero We'll deal about it but Atleti has already sodomised you with the crossbar in UCL.

  • Congratulation! Double for ATM Win UEFA Champions League + LA LIGA!

  • Uefalona got their ass3s kicked all season long , they shouldnt disobey and ritual & concede. Puta barca ! Goodluck Atleti

  • @commandozap disrespecting my team.....

  • 1-2 , all bets on ! Farca are lucky to be here , atleti deserve it from start.

  • If Atletico wins , this will be victory of passion over fraud posers

  • Should be great match

  • Some say Barca have to win it for Tito. I say Atletico must win it for Aragones.

  • Puyol has confirmed that he will not play and will likely never play again.

  • WhoScored supports Barca. Almost every player from Barca has better ratings than from Atletico. But the league tabel shows sth else...

  • @jareczka They're statistics, how can they be biased.

  • @jareczka How has Barca managed to keep up with Atleti? They've scored over 100 goals Barca and people say they don't deserve it! madness.

  • The tickets have been sold out and only about 500 Atletico fans are allowed and there would be 99,000 Barca fans ...

  • @AmeyaMahajan As long as its 11 vs 11 on the pitch - it doesnt matter. Atleti have nerves of steel

  • @AmeyaMahajan Uefalona has worst fans in the world. Any club would award atleast 5k tickets

  • On a side note. Hope Costa doesn't flop at Chelsea. As we've seen with the last few strikers they've signed.

  • What makes this match so intriguing is that anyone, ANYONE can win

  • DRAW---> 1-1

  • Tito your spirit guided us up to this stage against all odds, now please for one last time be our guardian angel and lift us to the title!!! #TitoEtern #ForcaBarca

  • Fear not Barcelona fans the titles belong to barca atletico will only try but not win this match

  • Both teams are unconvincing and whimsical , but Atleti have more heart , that too without impurities of corruptions , fraud , laundering , dishonesty etc. #AtletiForLiga '14

  • @soul_snatcher are you real in what you've written? Do you even have a sense of history? Have you ever heard of jesus gil?

  • ATM to Conquer CampNou
