Manchester City rocked by Aguero injury

Manchester City are sweating on the fitness of Sergio Aguero after the striker was stretchered off during Argentina’s 2-0 defeat to Ecuador in their World Cup qualifying opener.

Aguero, 27, was forced off after just 24 minutes during Argentina’s shock defeat with a hamstring injury and he is now a major doubt for City’s game against Bournemouth next Saturday.

Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping the injury isn’t too serious after the Argentine returned to form before the international break with five goals in 20 minutes against Newcastle United.

The former Atletico Madrid striker’s career has been plagued with reoccurring muscular injuries and the City star was reportedly in tears after this latest blow.

The absence of such a world-class talent has often been detrimental to City’s form in the league. In fact, since Aguero joined in 2011 the Premier League leaders have only managed to win 62% of the 50 matches Aguero has been absent from the starting XI (31), compared to a win ratio of 70% from the 110 games with the Argentine in the team from the off (77).
