Real Madrid manager denies Kepa deal

Zinedine Zidane insists he doesn’t need another goalkeeper amid intense speculation linking Athletic Club starlet Kepa with a move to Real Madrid.

Kepa has now entered the final six months of his current Athletic Club deal and reports have even emerged suggesting he has agreed terms and completed his medical with Madrid.

Keylor Navas has managed to remain Madrid’s No.1 goalkeeper in the last few seasons despite the fact Madrid have always been linked with a move for the likes of David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois.

However, the Costa Rica international looks to have kept hold of his starting spot for Madrid at least until the end of the season after Zidane rubbished the need to strengthen between the posts during the January transfer window.

“I don’t need anything. As a coach I don’t need a goalkeeper, right now I don’t need another keeper,” AS quote Zidane as saying in his news conference. “But later, if things change in June when we sit down to talk about the squad, maybe there will be positions where we will sign players.

“In the last two winter transfer windows we haven’t brought in anyone. There’ll come a time when we can discuss it properly but right now I don’t see any reason to bring anyone in. That’s why I only speak about the players I have, out of respect for them.”

Only Roberto Jimenez (34) and Pau Lopez (32) have made more saves inside the penalty area than Kepa (31) in La Liga this season.
