Manchester City prepared to match Rodrigo’s release clause

Manchester City are expected to match Rodrigo’s €70m (£62.2m) release clause this summer, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Rodrigo has emerged as a top transfer target for City, as Pep Guardiola looks to lock down Fernandinho’s long-term replacement.

Atletico Madrid only re-signed the Spanish midfielder last summer but are resigned to losing him to City.

Rodrigo is described as the heir to Sergio Busquets’ throne with the Spanish national team and would be a solid pick up by the Premier League champions.

The 22-year-old is mulling his future at Atletico and it would be a huge surprise if he turned down City’s advances.

Only Antoine Griezmann (7.29) garnered a higher WhoScored rating (5+ apps) than Rodrigo (7.24) of Atletico players in La Liga last season.

Furthermore, Rodrigo completed 91.1% of his passes in the league last term and scored three goals.
