Tottenham set to return for Saints midfield lynchpin

Tottenham remain interested in signing Southampton midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, reports Football.London.

Spurs were rumoured to be courting the Denmark international in January, but Saints quickly rebuffed any reports of a possible exit.

However, Hojbjerg has a little over a year left to run on his current deal at St. Mary's and has shown no indication that he is prepared to extend his stay on the south coast.

And it may be that the north London side return for Hojbjerg this summer with Jose Mourinho keen to bolster his midfield when the transfer window opens.

Saints would be reluctant to lose the 24-year-old, but appreciate that they'd need to sell this summer or risk losing him on a free next year if he doesn't extend his current contract.

The Dane has previously struggled for game time for Saints, but has been a star performer under Austrian boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Indeed, Hojbjerg has won possession all over the pitch a total of 287 times this season, more than any other Premier League player.
