United forward has showdown talks with Van Gaal

Manchester United forward Memphis has held crunch talks with manager Louis van Gaal over his future at the club, according to The Sun.

Memphis, 22, has been one of the flops of the season after struggling to make any positive impact on the Premier League since his big money arrival from PSV last summer.

The Netherlands international has struggled to adapt to the rigours of England’s top-flight and has spent the most part of the season watching on from the bench.

He was given his first league start in more than a month when United beat basement club Aston Villa 1-0 but he failed to impress.

Memphis has now held showdown talks with Van Gaal about his future at Old Trafford, with the United boss adamant the forward must show the fans he deserves to be at the club.

The controversial forward has only scored two goals from 25 league appearances this season, with the last of those coming in November (vs Watford).

Added to that, of players to have made more than 10 appearances in the Premier League this season, only two are being dispossessed more frequently than Memphis (22 mins).
