AC Milan star ruled out for the season

AC Milan have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of European football with news star midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura will miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury.

Bonaventura lasted just 27 minutes of Milan’s surprise 2-1 defeat away to Udinese on Sunday before being forced off with injury having put the visitors ahead before his withdrawal.

The 27-year-old has been in sublime form for Milan this season and has played a major part in their resurgence under Vincenzo Montella but the Serie A giants will now have to make do without their key man for the remainder of the season.

“I think he will return to play next season,” his surgeon, Dr. Sakari Orava, told Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia.

“Unless something unexpected happens during the operation. I operated on a similar injury for the skier Peter Fill before the Vancouver Games. He returned four months later. In football, however, you probably can’t make such a quick comeback.”

The Italy international only signed a new deal with Milan earlier last month and was primed to be a key part to the rest of their season with the club looking to return to European competition for the first time in four seasons.

Bonaventura is Milan’s highest rated player in league competition this season (7.50) having registered more key passes than any other teammate (41).
