Chelsea set to splash out on £53m-rated Serie A striker

Chelsea will back Antonio Conte in the January transfer window to help fix a strained relationship by signing Lazio striker Ciro Immobile, reports The Sun.

Conte has been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge exit in recent weeks and his alleged unhappiness reportedly dates back to the start of the summer.

Chelsea know that the show will go on even without Conte but they want to keep the Italian at the club after he led them to the Premier League title in his first season in charge.

The defending champions missed out on several of Conte’s first choice targets over the summer but are willing to back their man in January, starting with in-form Lazio ace Immobile.

The 27-year-old, who worked under Conte for the Italian national team, has been in sensational form for Lazio this season and has fired the Simone Inzaghi’s side into third place with his sheer weight of goals.

Conte wants to reunite with Immobile at Stamford Bridge as he looks to find an alternative to first choice striker Alvaro Morata but will have to pay in excess of £50 to land the Lazio ace, who only signed a new contract this week.

Only Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has scored as many goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season than Immobile (13).
