Gomez's serious injury deepens Liverpool's injury woes

Liverpool have been rocked further by news Joe Gomez has suffered an injury in training on England duty, reports The Daily Mail.

Jurgen Klopp's side have been decimated by injuries to key players already this season and fear Gomez's injury is serious.

England manager Gareth Southgate will provide an update on Gomez in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening.

The Three Lions have been preparing for Thursday's friendly with Ireland at their St. George's Park national base, where Gomez picked up the problem.

With Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho already sidelined for the foreseeable future, Gomez's injury leaves the Premier League champions incredibly short at the back.

Fortunately Joel Matip returned to full fitness last weekend but Klopp will now have to lean on rookie duo Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams going forward.

Gomez has already had to overcome three serious injuries in the last five years and another lengthy spell on the sidelines would be a hammer blow for the young defender.

Of centre-backs that have featured in all three Champions League group games this season, Gomez has the highest WhoScored rating in the competition.
