Aston Villa have offered Ashley Cole a six-month deal, reports Tuttomercatoweb.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back is currenty a free agent after being released by Roma having struggled to adjust to Italian football.
Villa are in need of some experience at the back and cover at left-back after Jordan Amavi was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, with Remi Garde seeing Cole as the ideal short-term solution in defence.
Current Villans boss Garde has seemingly seen little in Kieran Richardson to suggest he can help the club pull away from the relegation zone.
The Midlands side are currently eight points off safety and need a positive result against Arsenal today if they are to improve their chances of consolidating their spot in England's top tier.
