Manchester United boss still keen on Real Madrid star

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is still looking into the possibility of signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, according to Spanish publication Diario Gol.

Varane moved to Real Madrid during Mourinho’s time in Spain and the Portuguese boss is a huge admirer of the France international.

However, Los Blancos would be reluctant to cash in on one of their prized assets, with Varane, when fit, a first team regular alongside Sergio Ramos in defence following Pepe’s departure last summer.

Mourinho will hope to use funds raised from potential summer sales of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to lure Varane away from the Bernabeu.

The United boss is looking to add new additions at the back and is closely monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation in the Spanish capital.

Varane is expected to start against PSG tonight as Real Madrid take a 3-1 first leg advantage to the Parc des Princes, with the defender impressing in the win over their French counterparts.
