David Luiz still on course to leave Chelsea

David Luiz is still on course to leave Chelsea at the end of the season despite his immense showing against Manchester City on Saturday, claims The Daily Telegraph.

The 31-year-old will only have six months left to run on his current Chelsea deal in January and is aware the next contract he signs will realistically be the last big one of his career.

Chelsea have made it clear that players the wrong side of 30 will only be offered rolling one-year contracts but Luiz is not interested in signing a new deal that will only run until the end of next season.

Luiz’s performance against City was described as one of his best in a Chelsea shirt after playing an integral role at both ends of the pitch, preventing Pep Guardiola’s side from scoring and netting Chelsea’s second goal of the game.

Despite such an immense display, Luiz remains on course to leave Chelsea for the second time in his career as the Blues are not prepared to increase the length of their current offer.

Chelsea are also preparing for Gary Cahill’s departure in the summer, meaning Maurizio Sarri will have to undertake a huge defensive overhaul over the next two transfer windows.

Sarri has already admitted this season that Luiz has surprised him the most of any Chelsea player, reflected by the fact the veteran Brazilian has started every league game for the club this term.
