Sunderland confirm club-record signing

Sunderland have announced they have signed Lorient midfielder Didier Ndong in a deal worth £13.6m.

Ndong, 22, only joined Lorient last summer but has done enough in that time to convince Sunderland to break their club transfer record to land the defensive midfielder.

The Gabon international has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Sunderland and has called the chance to play in the Premier League a dream come true.

“I am very proud and happy to sign for Sunderland,” Ndong told the club’s official website. “This is a new adventure for me and to play in the Premier League is a dream come true.

“Maybe the Sunderland fans don’t know me yet, but I promise that they will quickly discover that I will give everything for them and the club. It will be an honour to wear the Sunderland shirt and I will wear it with a true understanding of what it means.

“I am excited to meet everyone at the club, to see the stadium and of course the fans, who I have heard so many good things about. Today is the most beautiful day of my life.”

Only one outfielder has committed more errors that have directly led to a shot on goal in Ligue 1 since the start of last season than Ndong (5).
