AC Milan sign Piatek as Higuain replacement

AC Milan have signed Krzysztof Piatek from Serie A rivals Genoa on a long-term deal until the summer of 2024, the Italian giants have announced.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side have been locked in talks with Genoa for the last week after being forced to find a replacement for Gonzalo Higuain, who has joined Chelsea.

Chelsea were willing to offload Michy Batshuayi to Milan but the Rossoneri have instead pursued Piatek.

The 23-year-old reportedly only cost Genoa €4m in the summer and Cesare Prandelli’s side have now banked €35m plus add-ons.

Piatek has been a revelation for Genoa this season and only trails Cristiano Ronaldo and Duvan Zapata (both 14) by one goal in the race to finish as this season’s Capocannoniere in Serie A.

Furthermore, the Poland international is the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues without registering a single assist.
