Aubameyang extends Dortmund contract

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has snubbed interest from the Premier League to sign a new five-year deal with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but has instead joined Marco Reus in committing their long-term future to the club.

“I’m absolutely delighted that the next years of my career will be spent at Borussia Dortmund. I feel very happy at the club, in this team and in this city,” said Aubameyang in a statement on the club’s official website.

“BVB has become like a second home to me. Every part of me wants to be here and I have never wanted to leave.

The Benin international has scored 29 goals in the Bundesliga since joining the club in 2013 and Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc was delighted with the news.

“Auba has developed outstandingly,” Zorc continued in the press release. “We are very happy that we have been able to tie him down to a long-term contract.”

Dortmund"s desire to keep the 26-year-old is understandable. Since joining from French side Saint-Etienne in 2013, only Robert Lewandowski (37) has scored more goals in the Bundesliga than Aubameyang (29).
