Chelsea star makes contract admission

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is ready to shelve discussions over a new contract for the foreseeable future and instead focus on his performances.

The Belgian’s current deal runs until the end of the next season and the Blues are understandably keen to tie him down to a new contract.

Talks have not progressed since Courtois’ representatives and Chelsea last met in May, with the shotstopper demanding a deal worth £200,000 a week.

The 25-year-old has regularly been linked with a return to Spain having spent three years in Madrid with Atletico, while Real Madrid have been interested in Courtois for some time now.

Ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Qarabag on Wednesday, Courtois suggested he is prepared to wait until the summer before discussing his future at Stamford Bridge.

“Regarding my contract, that's the thing where Chelsea must deal with my agent (Christophe Henrotay). I don't think there have been any new developments,” the Blues star is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team's games, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks.”
