Tottenham slap £17m valuation on midfielder’s head

Tottenham are ready to sell Victor Wanyama but are holding out for £17m, claims the London Evening Standard.

Wanyama has not been the same player since suffering from knee problems in 2018 and has failed to regain full match fitness.

Tottenham signed Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso this summer to further bolster their midfield options and push Wanyama further down the pecking order.

The transfer window for other leagues across Europe remains active and Tottenham hope to sell Wanyama before the end of the month.

Belgian outfit Club Brugge have reportedly made an approach for Wanyama after selling Marvelous Nakamba to Aston Villa this summer for around £11m.

However, Wanyama still has two years remaining on his current deal and Tottenham are hoping to command £17m for the defensive midfielder this summer.

Wanyama enjoyed a thoroughly impressive debut campaign for Tottenham, making 35 starts in 2016/17 after signing from Southampton for £11m.

Injuries, however, have limited Wanyama to just 12 starts from Tottenham’s subsequent 78 league outings.

In that time, Tottenham have a better win ratio (67%) when Wanyama has started compared to when he has not featured from the off (59%).
