United midfielder fears Euro exclusion

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed he is worried he will not make Didier Deschamps France squad for the European Championships in the summer.

Schneiderlin, 26, has failed to nail down a regular starting berth in Louis van Gaal’s side since making the switch from Southampton last summer.

The 26-year-old’s irregular outings for United coupled with the emergence of Lass Diarra and N’Golo Kante this season has left Schneiderlin fearing of a reality check when Deschamps names his squad later this month.

“It would be a lie to say that I am 100 per cent optimistic,” he told L’Equipe, via the Belfast Telegraph. “My chances are a bit less.

“But it would also be a lie to say that I don’t believe. For two years, I have practically made every squad. It has been a dream. It is always at the back of my mind.

“I am going to await the announcement with impatience, and see what happens without any regrets because it will be the coach’s decision.”

United’s win ratio in the league with Schneiderlin in the starting XI is significantly better (58.3%) than the games they have started without him. In fact, United have only won four of the 12 league matches they’ve started without the French defensive midfielder screening the back four.
