Barcelona target Pogba makes decision on Manchester United future
Paul Pogba has decided he wants to stay at Manchester United despite interest from Barcelona, reports RMC Sport.
Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the 2018 World Cup winner and there were even reports Pogba had agreed personal terms with the Spanish champions.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is desperate to broker a blockbuster move for his client, to the fury of United, but the 25-year-old has no desire to leave Old Trafford.
Barcelona’s hopes of prising Pogba away from United all but ended after the transfer window for English clubs shut on Thursday but there were reports of a January deal.
Ernesto Valderde’s side pulled off a similar transfer with Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool at the start of the year and will continue to monitor Pogba’s future at United.
Despite a frosty relationship with Jose Mourinho, the United boss was full of praise for the attitude Pogba has returned to training with this week.
Contrary to reports claiming Pogba is using Barcelona’s interest to leverage an improved deal at United, the France international has not asked for a wage hike on his current £350,000-a-week salary.
Pogba is determined to show he is one of the best midfielders in the world this season and wants to emerge as a real leader at United, having played a decisive role in France’s World Cup triumph this summer.
The United No.8 has been heavily criticised for his performances since returning to Old Trafford two years ago, but did provide 10 assists in the Premier League last term.
Furthermore, only two players won possession in the defensive third than Pogba at the 2018 World Cup (24).
