Tottenham’s 5-0 thrashing of Swansea on Saturday was statistically among the most one-sided games in Premier League history as they mustered 15 shots on target to Swansea’s 0.
Only once in the Premier League era has a side enjoyed a bigger gap between their opponents when it comes to shots on target, when Manchester City tested West Broms’s goal on 16 occasions to their none in March 2015.
Harry Kane, who scored two to take his tally in the league to seven for the season, was responsible for eight of those shots, as Lukasz Fabianski was forced to make 10 saves in the Swansea goal.
In fact, only on two occasions has a goalkeeper - Tom Heaton in two matches – been forced into action more times than Fabianski was against Tottenham on Saturday.
As Swansea seemingly gave up on their defensive responsibilities, Christian Eriksen was given the freedom of White Hart Lane and did so with ruthless efficiency. The Denmark international hasn’t enjoyed the best of campaigns thus far, but the 24-year-old created more chances than any other player in gameweek 14 of the Premier League (7). He has now scored all three of his league goals in his last two matches.
Eric Dier is another who has struggled to reproduce the sort of performances that almost won Tottenham the Premier League this season. The England international dropped down the pecking order since Victor Wanyama’s arrival and been forced to fill in at centre-back in Toby Alderweireld’s absence.
There wasn’t much defending required for Dier to do, which allowed the England international to showcase his ability when in possession, attempting more passes than any other player across the weekend’s action (87). It was the most passes he has attempted in a Premier League match since Tottenham played Sunderland in January (89 passes).
