Barcelona has announced midfielder Rafinha has signed a new five-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2020.
Rafinha, who is the younger brother of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, is currently sidelined for the long-term future having torn his cruciate ligaments earlier in the season.
The 22-year-old is highly regarded by manager Luis Enrique, who had the midfielder on loan at Celta prior to becoming Barcelona manager last season.
Rafinha appeared to feature prominently in Enrique’s plans going forward this season, but is now unlikely to feature at all following such a severe injury.
Only three players are averaging more key passes per game than Rafinha in La Liga for Barcelona this season (2) and there is a release clause of €75m (£53.5m) included in his new deal.
