Napoli want Watford striker, says agent

Napoli are interested in signing Watford striker Odion Ighalo, according to the striker’s agent.

Watford have twice turned down huge money offers from China for the Nigerian striker but could now look to cash in on the 27-year-old if Napoli come calling in January.

Napoli are short of firepower following Arkadiusz Milk’s long-term knee injury and Ighalo’s agent, Patrick Bastianelli, has confirmed a move could be possible due to Watford’s strong connections with the Italian club.

“Over the past two years he has been on a great run with a total of 36 goals,” he told Radio Marte, via the Watford Observer.

“In January it may be difficult to go away, Watford and the Pozzo family has excellent relations with Napoli, but it will be difficult to sell in the winter market.

“The last year he has also been wanted by Chelsea and Manchester United, but Watford had not even sat down to deal with them.

“We’re talking about a guy who is part of the Nigerian football team. In football anything can happen, we’ll see.”

Ighalo has formed a formidable understanding with Watford captain Troy Deeney in the last few years, but it was the Nigeria international who was sacrificed from the starting XI when they beat Middlesbrough earlier this month – their only win in their last four.

After making a flying start to life in the Premier League last season Ighalo has only managed three goals in 26 league appearances in 2016.
