Tottenham ready to move for £25m-rated Portuguese right back
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to make his first move in the transfer window by beating Juventus to the signing of Valencia right back Joao Cancelo, reports The Daily Mail.
Pochettino was already in the market for a new right-back following the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City, but will almost certainly need to accelerate their search with Kieran Trippier facing a spell on the sidelines.
Trippier left Wembley on crutches and in a protective boot after suffering an ankle injury in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Juventus on Saturday and will now almost certainly miss the start of the season.
Tottenham sent scouts to watch Cancelo during Portugal’s campaign at the European U21 Championships in June in preparation for Walker’s departure but the Premier League outfit could face competition from Juventus.
The Serie A champions are also in the market for a new right-back as they seek a replacement for Dani Alves, who joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.
In the last two seasons only Daniel Parejo (12) has registered more assists in La Liga for Valencia than Cancelo (8). Futhermore, only Filipe Luis (145) has completed more dribbles than Cancelo (114) of defenders in La Liga during that period.
