Serie A rising star on Chelsea’s radar

Chelsea are monitoring the progress of Serie A starlet Franck Kessie but are yet to make an official bid for the Atalanta midfielder, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Antonio Conte is keen to add another box-to-box midfielder to his squad despite the fact Chelsea are currently six points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Chelsea have already been linked with Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan and Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, but the Premier League leaders are also tracking the development of Kessie, who has been dubbed ‘the new Yaya Toure’.

Conte is keen to use the £60m raised from the sale of Oscar to China to sign at least two players in the January transfer window, but accepts he may not be able to land any of those midfield targets until the end of the season.

Chelsea are not the only team interested in Kessie, with rival Premier League and European sides also alleged to have an eye on signing the Atalanta ace in the next two transfer windows.

Kessie has scored more goals than any other Atalanta player in Serie A this season (6) despite being a central midfielder, while he isn’t one to shirk his defensive duties, completing 1.4 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game.
