Hazard delays Chelsea contract talks

Eden Hazard has accepted he will not join Real Madrid this summer but is in no rush to sign a new Chelsea deal, claims the London Evening Standard.

The Belgium international wanted to join Madrid this summer but Chelsea priced the European champions out of a move.

Chelsea wanted Hazard’s future sorted before the 2018 World Cup but the 27-year-old stalled on signing a new deal all last season.

Hazard still has two years left to run on his existing contract and Chelsea slapped a £200m price tag on his head to ward off Madrid’s interest.

Julen Lopetegui’s side rekindled their interest in Hazard in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock departure but have accepted defeat in their pursuit.

Madrid are still confident of signing Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, while Hazard wants to wait before deciding on his future.

Maurizio Sarri’s side want to restart contract talks with Hazard as soon as possible, but the Belgium captain is relaxed about his future.

Hazard was in sensational form at the 2018 World Cup and finished the tournament as the highest WhoScored rated player (8.51).
