Juventus plot ambitious move for Bonucci replacement

Juventus want to sign a new centre-back and have earmarked Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels as the ideal replacement for Leonardo Bonucci, reports Tuttomercato.

The Serie A champions sold Bonucci to historical rivals AC Milan in a deal worth £35m on Thursday and are now looking to make a big splash in the transfer window to reassert their dominance in Italian football.

Hummels only re-joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund last summer but will reportedly discuss his future with the Bavarians next week, with Max Allegri’s side waiting in the wings.

Juventus have already signed Douglas Costa from the Bundesliga champions this summer but it remains to be seen whether they have any realistic chance of landing the Germany international as well.

Javi Martinez, Jerome Boateng and Hummels are all vying for two places at the heart of Bayern’s defence and the 28-year-old wants to know Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the upcoming campaign before making a decision on his future.

Only Robert Lewandowski (34) and Jannik Vestergaard (27) had more headed attempts on goal in the Bundesliga last season than Hummels (24).
