Chelsea star set to agree terms on a new deal with interest mounting

According to The Sun, David Luiz is set to put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension at Chelsea.

The Brazilian’s current deal expires in the summer and his future seemed unclear, with the Blues only ever offering one-year deals to players over the age of 30.

The centre-back, now 31, has been a key player under Maurizio Sarri, however, and the Italian was keen to keep hold of a player that has been important to the transition to his style.

Luiz’s ability to play out from the back has never been questioned and he is certainly one that seems to have profited from Sarri’s approach.

Indeed, the defender has played more accurate through balls than any Premier League player this season, with his vision often helping the Blues unlock opposition defences.

The South American is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge as a result, and his contract situation is one that many clubs on the continent will have been monitoring.

Luiz is free to talk to clubs from oversees while his current deal winds down but is keen to stay with the Blues and expected to do just that.
